Submissions
Before you submit
A checklist to make sure your manuscript and supporting documents are ready before you fill in the form.
On this page
Use this checklist before you open the submission form. If you can tick every item, your submission will be complete and our editors can start reading straight away.
Is your book a good fit?
- It's in one of our genres: Contemporary Fiction, Literary Fiction, Philosophical Sci-Fi, Thriller, Poetry or Non-Fiction. See What we publish.
- It's written in English, or in Bengali or Hindi (please email us first for these).
- For fiction and poetry: the manuscript is finished, revised, and you're happy for an editor to read it now.
- For non-fiction: you have a proposal and at least two sample chapters.
- You hold the rights. The work is original, yours, and not under contract with another publisher.
Is your manuscript ready?
- Saved as a .docx or PDF file, no larger than 20 MB.
- Formatted as described in Manuscript formatting: 12 pt font, 1.5 line spacing, page numbers, each chapter starting on a new page.
- Your name and the book title are on the first page.
- You've read it through once more for typos. You don't need to be perfect, but it does make a difference.
- You know the total word count (your word processor shows this).
Are your supporting documents ready?
You'll paste these into the form, so have them in a text file:
- Synopsis: 500 to 1,000 words describing the whole book, including the ending. See Writing a synopsis.
- Short bio: 100 to 150 words, written in the third person. See Author bio and photo.
- Contact details: an email address you check regularly and a phone number.
A few more things to know
- Simultaneous submissions are fine. You can send your book to other publishers at the same time. If another publisher makes an offer, please tell us straight away.
- One book at a time. Please send one manuscript and wait for our reply before sending another.
- No fees. We never charge a reading fee.
- Keep a copy. We can't return manuscripts, so keep your own copy of everything you send.
